How to Create Comfortably in a Heatwavew

Creating Through a Heatwave: A Cozy Creator’s Guide

I’ll be honest.

When the weather gets hot, my creativity often slows right down.

The cozy blankets get packed away, hot drinks become iced drinks, and suddenly sitting at a desk for hours feels far less appealing than finding the nearest fan and doing absolutely nothing.

If you’ve been struggling to create during a heatwave, you’re not alone.

There is something about extreme weather that changes our routines. We sleep differently, eat differently, and often have less energy than usual. Yet many of us still expect ourselves to be just as productive as we are on a cool spring morning.

The result?

Guilt.

We start feeling bad for not creating enough, posting enough, writing enough, or making enough progress.

But perhaps the answer isn’t to push harder.

Perhaps the answer is to create differently.

Adjust Your Expectations

One of the best things I’ve learned as a creator is that every season has its own rhythm.

Winter invites us indoors.

Spring encourages fresh ideas.

Autumn feels reflective.

Summer often asks us to slow down.

Instead of fighting the season, try working with it.

If you normally write three blog posts, perhaps one is enough.

If you usually spend four hours creating, maybe an hour is more realistic.

Progress doesn’t stop counting simply because it happens more slowly.

Create During Cooler Hours

Some of my best ideas arrive early in the morning before the day has fully warmed up.

The house is quieter.

The air feels fresher.

There are fewer distractions.

Even thirty focused minutes can achieve more than several uncomfortable hours spent staring at a screen.

If mornings aren’t your thing, try later in the evening when the temperature begins to drop.

Embrace Simplicity

Heatwaves are not the time to launch ten new projects.

They’re the time to simplify.

Repurpose old content.

Update older blog posts.

Organise photos.

Plan future content.

Work on smaller creative tasks that require less energy.

Not every day has to be a major production day.

Create a Summer Cozy Space

Cozy doesn’t disappear just because the weather changes.

It simply looks different.

Swap blankets for light cotton throws.

Trade hot chocolate for iced tea.

Open the windows.

Light a fresh citrus candle.

Bring flowers indoors.

Create a workspace that feels calm and inviting rather than stuffy and uncomfortable.

Cozy is a feeling, not a temperature.

Give Yourself Grace

This is perhaps the most important reminder of all.

You are not a machine.

You are a human being.

There will be seasons when your output is higher and seasons when it is lower.

Both are normal.

The goal isn’t constant productivity.

The goal is building a creative life that you can actually enjoy.

Sometimes that means resting.

Sometimes that means reading.

Sometimes that means sitting in the garden with a notebook and letting your mind wander.

Creativity needs space to breathe.

Final Thoughts

If you’re creating through a heatwave, be kind to yourself.

Drink plenty of water.

Take breaks.

Work when your energy feels strongest.

And remember that even small steps count.

The blog post you write today doesn’t need to be perfect.

The project you work on doesn’t need to be finished.

Just keep showing up in whatever way feels sustainable.

Your creativity will still be waiting for you when the weather cools down.

And sometimes, the slow summer days become the inspiration for your best work yet.
